Towel Contest Rules

  1. The entrant must be at least a supporting member of CC42 to enter the competition. Entrants who are not planning on attending in person must have an at-con attending member who will be responsible for delivering and retrieving entries before and after the competition. CC42 assumes no responsibility for transport, storage, and/or returning of entries. CC42 will not accept any mail-in entries. Entries must be dropped off in-person at time of competition check in/registration.
  2. There will be two categories (subject to your whims):
    • The Purist Towel (Ford’s preference)
    • The Exotic Towel
  3. Towel width must be no larger than 36″.
  4. Each entry must be recognizable as a towel. Otherwise, you are free to use whatever materials and techniques you wish to make, decorate, and embellish your towel.
  5. Contestants may display their towel entries in whatever way they see fit. The towel must be able to sit on a table, reside on a rack, or be clipped to a clothesline. (If you bring your own display device, please label it clearly as yours for removal at the end of the competition. CC42 will not be responsible for replacing lost display devices.)
  6. There is NO Rule #6.
  7. A Self-guided tour with a description of each towel and what it does (or doesn’t do) will be provided at CC42 for all entries received by the due date/time. Latecomer entries will not be included in the tour. If your entry will be late, please notify the Competition Co-Directors as soon as possible to make arrangements for late check-in.
  8. Our judges include the 2023 Towel Day Ambassador, Yvette Keller. Judges are free to recognize and award as many or as few entries as are deemed appropriate.
  9. There will also be a “People’s Choice Award” for each category. Look for instructions at the competition exhibit room. Voting will end at 4pm SHARP.*
  10. Entries may be submitted for display starting as early as noon on Friday, March 29, 2024. All entries must be registered and placed no later than NOON on Saturday, March 30, 2024. The earlier your entry is placed, the better your chances are for recognition with a People’s Choice Award.
  11. Entries should remain on display for the duration of the conference, if possible. Please arrange early pickup with the Competition Co-Directors.
  12. Entries may also appear in other CC42 events ONLY by special arrangement with the Competition Co-Directors.
  13. All entries must be picked up no later than NOON on Monday, April 1, 2024. Any entries remaining after the convention closes on Monday may be disposed of as we see fit.
  14. Entries may also be submitted using the paper form to be provided on-site, so long as they are legible and include all required information. Submitted registrations are only valid for entries on physical display during the conference. No virtual entries will be accepted for this competition.
  15. By entering your towel, you agree that CC42’s official photographer and guests of the conference may photograph and record video of your entry and that those images may be used in promotions for future Costume-Con conferences. You also agree to allow the photographs and video to be posted on Costume-Con.org and the International Costumers’ Guild (ICG) Archives. All other rights to each entry remain with the designers/creators.
